So, the world somehow convinced itself it needed a Ted 2. And honestly? Thank magical, flying, foul-mouthed Christmas ghosts for that. The 2015 sequel brought back everyone’s favorite horny, profane teddy bear, and the cast is a bizarre, beautiful train wreck of talent. Let’s break down who was crazy enough to sign up for this ride.
The Unholy Trinity
Mark Wahlberg returns as John Bennett, the human chew toy who still hasn’t learned not to trust a walking stuffed animal. Wahlberg puts in the kind of committed performance that makes you forget he once had Grammy nominations. He genuinely sells the idea that he loves a talking teddy bear more than most people love their pets.
Seth MacFarlane voices Ted, and he’s still basically Peter Griffin with a plushie addiction. MacFarlane’s secret weapon is that he makes a CGI bear feel like your drunkest uncle at a wedding. The motion-capture work is so good you almost forget you’re watching a guy in a green leotard flailing around a soundstage.
Must Read
Then there’s Amanda Seyfried, replacing Mila Kunis as John’s love interest Samantha. Seyfried brings the energy of someone who accidentally wandered into the wrong audition and decided to make it her movie anyway. Her character is a pot-smoking lawyer, which is basically the most qualified lawyer in this universe.
The Villains and the Weirdos
Standing in the way of teddy bear equality is Giovanni Ribisi, back as the creepy Donny. Ribisi plays him like a human muppet having a psychotic break. He spends the entire movie wanting to kidnap Ted, which raises serious questions about what his childhood involved. Pro tip: never hire Ribisi if you want a villain with subtlety.

But the real surprise is Morgan Freeman as a civil rights lawyer. Yes, that Morgan Freeman. He appears to deliver a speech about teddy bear personhood with the same gravity he gave to Shawshank Redemption. Freeman either needed a new yacht or just loved the script where a bear tries to have sex with a tomato. We may never know.
Surprising Cameos and Wasted Talent
Patrick Warburton shows up as a guy who looks like he’s perpetually confused about why he’s there. His stone-faced delivery of lines about bear genitalia is peak comedy. Warburton could read a phone book and it would sound like a threat from a Norse god.

Oh, and Jay Leno drops in for a voice cameo. Because nothing says “cutting-edge comedy” like a late-night host from the 1990s. The film also features Tom Brady as himself, which is baffling because the New England Patriots quarterback has no business being funny. He isn’t funny here, but his awkwardness somehow works.
The Real MVP
The unsung hero is John Slattery as the sleazy lawyer who represents the anti-bear faction. Slattery plays it like Roger Sterling from Mad Men if Roger had a three-scoop sundae for breakfast every day. Every line he says drips with the arrogance of a man who once sued a kitten for emotional distress.
In the end, Ted 2 has no right to be as watchable as it is. The cast is a strange cocktail of Oscar winners, sitcom refugees, and one extremely confused bear. Is it a masterpiece? Absolutely not. Is it two hours of your life you won’t get back? Probably. But at least we got to watch Morgan Freeman argue about whether a teddy bear can adopt a baby. That’s worth the price of admission, right?
